all contributorsMat Dryhurst (b. 1984, United Kingdom) is a Berlin-based artist, technologist, and researcher whose work addresses the ownership and augmentation of digital identity, voice, and creative labor in the age of machine learning. Largely self-taught, he has developed technical protocols proposed as artworks unto themselves — tools and systems for navigating consent, attribution, and collective intelligence in AI environments. In 2022, he co-founded Spawning, an organization building a consent layer for AI, developing tools including haveibeentrained.com, Kudurru, and Source.Plus. He publishes studio research openly through the Interdependence podcast (launched 2020). Faculty positions have included NYU’s Clive Davis Institute (Berlin), the European Graduate School, Strelka Institute, and the Antikythera Program at the Berggruen Institute. Exhibitions include “The Call” at Serpentine North, London (2024–2025); Whitney Biennial (2024); and “Starmirror” at KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, and Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Düsseldorf (2025). Awards include Ars Electronica S+T+ARTS Prize (2022), TIME Magazine 100 Most Influential Voices in AI (2023), Austrian Art Prize for Digital Human Rights (2024), and the Kairos Prize (2025).
